I am asked this question every time I work with anyone over 18! If you are an adult, there's a good chance you have a stack(s) of papers somewhere that you have no clue what to do with or if you even need them. Don't panic... you're in luck! #HRBlock has created this easy to understand chart (see below) on what to keep and how long to hold on it.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of scanning files that you don't have to keep paper records of (check out genius scan if you don't own a scanner)... but there are those certain documents where you need to keep the original, paper copy. I suggest printing out this guide to use as you sort through your files.
